Offers 2 Years Course in General Maintenance

General Maintenance technicians  are competent in performing the following core competencies:

• Perform air-conditioning services such as installation, maintenance, repairing and overhauling of domestic air-conditioning.
• Perform single phase wiring, wiring maintenance, motor & motor control installation, electrical appliances maintenance and wiring testing & commissioning.
• Perform basic welding, cut materials using disc cutter and power saw, fit and track work piece and set up shield metal arc welding.

CERTIFICATION
Students who pass all competencies will be awarded the Montfort Youth Centre and Competency Certificate from “Industrial Training Centre (ILP) recognized by Malaysian Manpower Department and Ministry of Human Resources.

SKILL ENHANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Students who are competent can proceed for triple phase wiring course or WQT 6G welding courses.

The first-year students from Batch 23 journeyed to CIDB Melaka to undertake their competency examination in single-phase wiring. To pass the exams, it was imperative for the boys to install a functioning wiring system.

From May 6 to 9, 2024, the first-year students in the GMD program took their first semester examinations on the wiring module. They faced a combination of theoretical and practical assessments during this examination period. .

Considering the first years are still in the electrical module, they were tasked with establishing a functional single phase wiring structure. While the second years concluded the welding modules, students were challenged to build a money box using all of the principles they had learned during their lessons. The winners were chosen based on the designs’ precision and ingenuity.

First-year GMD students sat for their second semester exams on wiring module whereas the 2nd years had their final semester exams in welding from May 15–18, 2023, where they had both theoretical and practical exams to complete.

From November 14 to November 18, 2022, General Maintenance students took their first- and third-semester final exams, in which their electrical and welding skills were assessed.

Batch 20 GMD students headed to Institute Latihan Perindustrian Malaysia (ILP), for their 3G Welding final test which is from 4th to 5th of June 2022. With a lot of supervision and guidance from their instructors, the lads manage to fulfil the specified tasks efficiently.

Students from the General Maintenance Department were required to design a clothes hanger using their welding skills as well as demonstrate their understanding of single-phase wiring. Safe operation, orderliness, tool management, reasoning skills, and, most crucially, efficiency were used to evaluate the contestants.

On April 21, 2022, the General Maintenance students from Batch 21 headed to “Institut Latihan Perindustrian” (ILP) Bukit Katil, Melaka to take their final electrical exams. They must pass both the theoretical and practical aspects of their respective programs in order to be granted a competency certificate. Best of wishes to all of the students!
P/s: ILP granted the students permission to remove their masks because they were separated by chambers.

Both the 1st year and 2nd year General Maintenance students sat for the 2nd semester and 4th semester final exams respectively from 7th to 11 March 2022. They were tested on electrical and welding competencies.

In order to graduate, all the 2nd year General Maintenance boys must complete their welding examinations as well. They were again assessed on the theories and practical parts of their modules. They had their exams at “Institut Latihan Perindustrian” (ILP) Bukit Katil, Melaka.

All the 2nd year MYC General Maintenance boys together with 9 Montfort Boys’ Town (MBT) boys sat for their final semester exams on 22 April 2021. Earlier, all of them including the MBT boys had a week of revision training in MYC. They had their exams at “Institut Latihan Perindustrian” (ILP) Bukit Katil, Melaka. They were assessed on the theories and practical parts of their modules and all of the boys passed with flying colours!

P/s: The boys were given the permission by ILP to remove their masks as they were separated by chambers.

The 1st year students from General Maintenance Department sat for their Achievement Certificate for Building Wiring Installation (BWI) for Single Phase Wiring examination on 27 August 2020 at Institusi Latihan Kemahiran Malaysia (ILP). All of the boys did their best and passed the examination.

On the 15th &16th July 2020, GMD boys went to Institute Latihan Perindustrian Malaysia (ILP), for their 3G Welding final exam. Although the boys were not practicing welding due to the lock Movement Control Order (MCO), the boys gave their best after receiving a quick refresh from their teachers.

General Maintenance Department had two competitions which were 3 Phase Motor Control System and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). The winners were determined based on the time utilized to complete each task, safety measures taken, tools handling and orderliness. All the winners each received a certificate and a trophy.

All the students from both Year 1 and Year 2 sat for their semester examination where this would be the last semester examination for Year 2. All the students were required to sit for both theory and practical assessment.

General Maintenance Students sat for Sijil Kemahiran Kecekapan (SKK) CIDB for Building Wiring Installation (BWI) for Single Phase Wiring examination on 11 April 2019.
